Sign up for 2016-2017 Winter Basketball Leagues. Proof of age and residency is required for new participants. In order to avoid being placed on the waiting list, registrations must be recieved by November 4, 2016.
Teams will be formed according to the child's current grade. Maximum age restrictions exist in each league. The Park & Recreation Department reserves the right to move participants who have reached their maximum age to the appropriate league.

$60 for registrations received after November 4, 2016 (if openings still exist)

For Boys & Girls Midget, Girls Intermediate & Boys Junior league, practices are held weekday evenings, one practice per week. November 28th - Mid March. Practices are scheduled by volunteer coaches according to the coaches' availabilty and the availabity of the facilites. Games are held on Saturdays.

The Fun Basketball program and Boys & Girls Instructional programs are held on Sunday afternoons beginning January 8th.

The Boys Senior Leauge begins in Mid December. One Practice a week and games on Sunday afternoons.

If: You are trying out for the school team, CYO or Suburban basketball team but might be interested in playing Park & Recreation basketball, please sign up now. If you then decided not to play we can refund your money. It is more difficult to add players after the teams have been drafted then it is to pull a player off a team.

The Park & Recreation Department offers Winter swim lessons for the following levels. All swim lessons are held at the Senior High School Sady Pool, located at 425 Piper Road Class size is limited. Level 2 - Fundamental Aquatic Skills
Purpose - To provide students with opportunites for success with fundamental skills sucha as tread water and basic swim strokes.

Children's Art Classes
The West Springfield Park & Recreation Department, along with the Terriers Around Town, are pleased to offer Children’s Art Classes for children ages 6 & up. These art lessons will be held on Fridays at the UNICO Building, located in Mittineague Park, for five week sessions. The cost will be $30.00 per child and will include all supplies for water color and drawing. Local artists Joan Barnard, Sue Urban & Sue Newman will be the instructors.

Happening at the NEW Sady Pool, located in the WS High School.
Open to West Springfield residents (proof of residency required) ONLY. There will also be a lane designated for those interested in swimming laps.

Rules & Regulations:

Walkers & Joggers must have valid West Springfield ID to sign in with the gym supervisor on duty.

Sneakers/walking shoes only, no cleats or shoes with heels allowed.

The track is not to be utilized for viewing activities in the gymnasium – NO SPECTATORS

No food or beverages allowed on the track except water in a plastic container.

Track usage at West Springfield High School through the Park & Recreation is open to W.S. Residents ages 14 years and up.

Only walkers and joggers are allowed on the track.

Restrooms are located on the first floor lobby gym area.

Using any other areas of the high school is NOT PERMITTED.

To participate in this event, any West Springfield resident must aquire a free skate voucher at the P&R office starting three weeks prior to the scheduled skate date. Proof of residency is required! The voucher must be presented at the time of skate to receive admission. Parental signature is required for children under 18, and helmets are highly recommended.
Skate rentals are available for $3.00 per person.

The West Springfield Park & Recreation Department is pleased to offer various nature actvities for children ages 6 -12. Each session is led by an experienced enviormental educator and involves discovery hikes and usually something to take home. Programs are three hours long and will be held at the UNICO Building, located in Mittineague Park. The cost will be $20.00 per child. Parents: Sign your kids up and get them outdoors to learn about and appreciate the natural world around us.

TREES ARE TERRIFIC!
This is the time of year when trees put on their color show and go from green to red, yellow and orange. Let’s hike into the forest and do some color experiments with the leaves, discover animals that live in trees, play tree games, and collect seeds and nuts from trees. We will make flour from acorns – the nuts of the oak tree. Bring a snack of something that came from a tree and be ready to go for a hike!

LITTLE CREATURES ARE EVERYWHERE
Let’s take our magnifiers and collection containers as we hike the trails looking for tiny creatures. At this time of year they are hiding & preparing for winter. We’ll look under logs, up in trees, in the ridges of tree bark & in the soil for worms, spiders, beetles salamanders & more. Be on the lookout for insects in all stages of life not only adults, but pupa and larva too. Bring your sense of adventure and dress for hiking and the weather.
Note: Equipment will be provided but bring your own if you wish.

CUSTOMIZED HIKING STICKS
If you like to go out in the woods, a hiking stick can be a useful thing. It helps you cross streams & keep your balanced going over logs. Today’s hike we will concentrate on looking for just the right stick for your height. We’ll then take it inside and sand it and decorate it with colorful duct tape, feathers, beads, and natural materials to make it uniquely yours. Make more than one for gifts if you wish.

The West Springfield Park & Recreation Department is excited to announce that the indoor track located above the West Springfield High School Gymnasium, at 425 Piper Road, will be open to the general public during specific hours listed below. The distance around the upper track is 1/8th of a mile, 8 revolutions is equal to one mile. West Springfield residents are asked to adhere to the following rules & regulations in order to utilize the track.

The West Springfield Park & Recreation is pleased to offerclasses in fencing. All courses below will be held at the UNICO Building, located in Mittineague Park. The cost per student will include all supplies. Students are to bring water bottle, wear sneakers, long pants (sweat pants are acceptable), and comfortable t-shirts.
Instructed by Taro Yamashita, coach at Riverside Fencing Club, and staff coaches from the Riverside Fencing Club.
YOUTH INTRODUCTION TO FENCING:
In this active, fun class, students will learn the basic techniques and tactics of the modern Olympic sport (with ancient roots) of
fencing. Starting with basic footwork and movement, students will progress quickly to basic bladework and tactics for attacking,
defending, and deceiving opponents. No prior experience is required.
Program meets: Sundays, November 6, 13, 20, 27, December 11, 18 (No class Dec 4)
